Half of us don't even make it to July 4! So why stress? Let's revolt! Resolve nothing. But live everything. We know living a healthy lifestyle is about balance, but the problem with being human is that immediately after deciding balance must be a great thing to have, we start trying to structure and categorize it. In my mind, it's more of a teeter-totter (those used to be so much fun!). So let's enjoy the ride and consider balance as a wellness journey, not a destination. Case in point: a year ago I resolved to have a massage a month in 2011. I did great until April, then I fell off the map for a couple months. The reasons don't matter, only the end result: I missed my massages, the escape they provide, and how they ease my sometimes ouchy body. As I look back, I applaud myself for having two massages in July as well as in October. And my November massage was one of my favorite kinds—a blissful hot stone treatment. Yeah for me! So as 2012 sneaks up from behind the holiday lights and sugar cookies, let's count our lifestyle successes and gently learn from our mishaps. Oh no, wait, those are resolutions! I suppose they're inevitable, but will you join us? We at Body Sense will be with you along the journey. —Leslie A. Young, Editor in Chief NIH Promotes Lifelong Exercise The National Institutes of Health have created a new program for people 50 and older to help encourage them to get and stay active. The Go4Life campaign will partner with agencies, organizations, and other key stakeholders to increase the percentage of people who engage in regular physical activity (only 30 percent of people aged 50–64 and 25 percent aged 65–74 engage in regular physical activity.) Health professionals are encouraged to visit www.go4life.niapublications.org for information and resources to promote physical activity, motivate clients, and support the campaign.
